Ulrica Hydman Vallien (1938 - 2018)

Ulrica lived and worked in Åfors and Stockholm and is one of Sweden’s most prominent artists and designers. Her easily recognisable lithographs and original acrylic paintings with their clear and forceful expressions can be seen at the Vida Museum on the island of Öland, Sweden. Ulrica started creating her pottery in Åfors in 1964. In 1972 she began working for Kosta Boda and designed the large collections of glass entitled Happy Going, Caramba and Open Minds. Since then her painted glass blocks have remained in demand globally.

Works by Ulrica Hydman Vallien can be found in many peoples’ homes. Her art glass is in demand by collectors and museums all over the world and her domestic glasses are laid on table everywhere from Sweden to New York.  Today Ulrica Hydman Vallien is herself a brand. As designer, craftsperson and artist she has cultivated her own personal style and turned it into a success story.  Her design extends far beyond the glass industry and includes everything from painting aeroplanes, textiles and of course her Jamida products!
